Jets agreed to terms with LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson on a six-year, $60 million extension.
The deal includes $34.8 million in guarantees. Already under contract for two more years, Ferguson will receive $73.6 million over the next eight years, topping Jake Long's five-year, $57 million deal. Due to his relatively high 2009 salary ($6 million), the "30 percent" rule was not a significant detriment to Ferguson's extension. The Jets will now turn their attention to restructuring Darrelle Revis' contract, with Nick Mangold and David Harris on the back burner. Jul. 7 - 1:11 pm et

We all know that LT's in this league come at an absolute premium. The Jets got their guy locked up - but as the article says, they have to get a lot of other players locked up. Going to be interesting to see how they handle the situation as a whole.

"If you hit somebody hard enough, they will give up," Bob Sanders says. "You can feel their body go limp and they'll just surrender. So every time I hit somebody, the goal is to knock myself out. I know that if I hit somebody hard enough that I can feel it, it's hurting them 10 times worse."

I would not want to be the Jets' GM.

Word came this week that the New York Jets had signed left tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson to a whopping six-year, $60 million contract, but ProFootballTalk is reporting that the contract is worth "only" $5.3225 million for this coming season.
Ferguson will collect $622,500 as salary, $1.6 million as a signing bonus, and a roster bonus worth $3.1 million, the site reports.
If he gets hurt, the team can terminate the contract, according to ProFootballTalk, but if he doesn't, then the team can decide year-by-year to keep him or not.

Looks like the Brick wont be getting as much as one would think initially. But thats just how volatile these contracts work, they can just dump any player that they want. Pretty pathetic, if you consider what these players put themselves year in and year out. As well as the physical toll they receive after their careers are over, specifically lineman.

I do. When you have a cornerstone type of LT, it does wonders for your team. I mean, look at Walter Jones for the Seahawks a few years ago. He was one of the most impressive LT's that came around for awhile, and my oh my was he critical to the success of the Seahawks. You look at the draft, why do you always see tackles being projected and being selected so high? It's no fluke.

Actually, it may be.

I'll post more on it later but I read something very interesting on this subject the other day I'd like to share with everyone.

Yes. It's a passing game and you need to keep the QB in one piece. In the Jets ball control system, run blocking plays a bigger part.
